Hello! This is the simplest of little newsletters to tell you about a couple of changes in my tiny corner of Substack.
Firstly, a new name! This Oddinary Life is now Softly Falls The Light. After nearly two years of writing over on my blog www.thisoddinarylife.com, and several months of tandem posting here on Substack, last month I hit the proverbial wall, and couldn’t see a viable way forward for my writing. I wasn’t even sure if I wanted to continue posting on Substack; I struggle to define exactly what it is that I write, no obvious label offers itself up, so how to begin trying to build a larger audience on here – how, more importantly, to continue giving something of value to my treasured existing readers - if even I cannot describe what it is that I am offering?
The name Softly Falls The Light came to me as I emerged from a coaching session (I have the great fortune to be a ‘practice client’ for a coach-in-training) during which I had become rather emotional about my ‘writer’s despair.’ It occurred to me that my writing, particularly of late, has inhabited that dappled realm of light and shadow, joy and melancholy that is so integral to our experience in human form.
I feel most at peace beneath the canopy of the forest, in glade and shade, in those places where the sunlight slants just so, filtered through leaves and branches. Those places where it feels safe to be wholly content, or deeply sad, or anything in-between. That, in essence, is the feeling I seek to capture in words, and I think Softly Falls The Light encapsulates that. My hope is that it will evolve into a comfortable, familiar space for like-minded and reflective souls.
I have also decided to dedicate a separate Substack to musings on the Tarot. I’ve yet to publish my first post for this new adventure – which, for now at least, is entitled The Wisest Fool – but if you are interested in the wondrous world of Tarot, I’d be everso grateful if you’d consider subscribing. I am at the start of my path to becoming a Tarot Therapist, and The Wisest Fool will explore the use of the cards as a tool for self-insight. Join me on the journey?
Thank you for reading, and for your support. Having 35 subscribers on here is a big deal for me, and I am so grateful for you all! If you’d care to sit with me a while in my forest glade, I’d be thrilled, and I’ll make sure we never run out of biscuits.
Blessings to you,
Lizzie x
I really like the new name! And would definitely be interested in reading a tarot focused one too.
It’s lovely when you get the clarity that shines a light on your corner of darkness. Tarot is such a fascinating topic to explore. 🙏💫
