Oh Lizzie I absolutely get this: the love of a tree. I have a couple near me (one has the most superbly gnarly, twisting trunk), and I often think back to an old oak in the previous town we lived in that I loved. I used to take a photo of it every week on my walk and intended to make a video collage of it changing through the seasons (I should still do that). The awful destruction of the tree at Sycamore Gap a few weeks ago made me realise that loving a tree is not unusual, especially one as iconic as that. It broke my heart and yet I've never even seen it in real life... I can only imagine the heartbreak caused to those who loved it as their own πŸ˜β€‹

Wonderful post x

I would love to see a video collage of your beloved oak tree, what a fabulous idea! Oh yes, the Sycamore Gap tree felling was shocking wasn't it, it made me tearful too despite, like you, never having visited it. Trees are just special, aren't they? Have you read Peter Wohlleben's The Hidden Life of Trees? Fascinating book. Thank you so much, Catherine x
